Gone are the days of peaceful rickshaw rides around the city, with passengers who reveled in the act of traveling the streets in simplicity. Today, all the hype is about being able to acquire as modern and efficient a motor vehicle as possible.
Different people in Dhaka have a taste for different types of cars – some like their vehicles to be the best new thing out, such as a flashy new BMW series 5, while for others functionality and efficiency are the primary requirements, such as the Toyota Premio.
New, used or reconditioned
While on a hunt for cars, the first thing to decide is what kind of car you want. Besides the brand and model of a vehicle, the other most important factor is to choose whether you will be going for a brand new car, a used car or a reconditioned car.
The perks of buying a brand new car are many, which we are all familiar with. They have the untapped warranty, the un-used and brand new feel and functionality of the vehicle itself as well as the absence of nicks and scratches left behind by previous owners.
A cheaper option is to go for used cars which have neither the high costs nor the rapid depreciation issues of a brand new car. One other factor is how buying the cheaper option of a used car allows you to go for a newer model as opposed to an older but more expensive model of a new car.
Striking a balance between old cars and used cars are reconditioned cars. They are both less costly than new cars and also come free of the dents and/or damages left by the previous owner in used cars.
What car is right for you?
Buying a car is a decision that requires many things to be taken into account.
For starters, what is it that you require from your car? Do you need it to be fuel efficient, safe, and reliable or anything else?
Then comes the financial portion of how much you can afford to spend on your car.
For the average citizens of Dhaka, Toyota is perhaps the most viable and commonly selected option, due to its fuel efficiency and, most importantly, the availability of its after sales parts.
Other brands such as Honda, Nissan and Mitsubishi are also rapidly grabbing customers with their brand new cars.
The key, therefore, is to decide on which car, in terms of its brand, price, model, build and other features, is right for you.
