From 2001 to 2007, the South Korean auto manufacturer Hyundai produced the Mid-size SUV named the Hyundai Terracan. Its chassis was based on the second generation Mitsubishi Pajero and took the Hyundai Highland as its base concept. The name ‘Terracan’ is derived from "terra" (land) and "Khan" (king). In 2007, Hyundai Veracruz replaced the Terracan.

The Terracan was powered by one of two engines: a 2.9 liter inline-four Hyundai J turbo diesel engine producing 160 Horsepower of power at 3800 rpm and torque of 345 Nm of at 1750rpm or a 3.5 liter V6 Hyundai Sigma petrol engine producing power of 195 Horsepower and 302 Nm of torque. In the Terracan CRDi (common rail direct injection) gives a fuel consumption figures of 13 liters/100km in urban condition and 8 liters/100km on the highway. The car can reach 0 to 100 kilometer per hour in 12.6 seconds with a top speed of 167 kilometers per hour.

Hyundai makes good progress with the quality and the Terracan is a good example of it. It looks well-built from the outside and resembles the basic shape as a Land Cruiser and Toyota Prado. Its exterior has an upright appearance that in the process influence positively for the commanding stance of the Terracan.
Terracan 2005 version brought a stylish front end and sporty hood scoop with its bold body flaring and the large contemporary headlamps. A high raking windshield, the chunky wheel arches, a purposeful headlight design, a roof-mounted spoiler and massive 255/65 R 16 tires also adds to Terracan’s superior looking design. And it provides substantial ground clearance to fulfill its off-road duty. All different Terracan trims come as low range gearing and a separate ladder frame chassis.

Terracan’s 7 Seater allows ample leg and head room for both front seats and the second row. To give the second-row occupant the feeling of unblocked view of the road, the seats are positioned higher. Its front seats are reasonably comfortable and supportive, its second-row seats are quite simple and allow for the split/fold technique. For the second row, there is center armrest and a side step so children can climb into the rear easily.

Terracan was available in two bases and Highlander trim level. Highlander models offers standard features like leather seats, wood grain interior trim, climate control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, air-conditioning, chrome finish on the grille and exterior door handles and an automatic 4wd differential.
